With the countdown to Christmas Day officially on, Santa and Mrs. Claus visited Essex Centre on Sunday to enjoy a pancake breakfast with local families.

170 individuals enjoyed the annual Breakfast with Santa event, which the Town of Essex’s Recreation Department hosted inside the Shaheen Community Room at the Essex Centre Sports Complex. Another 150 will enjoy similar festivities in McGregor and Harrow this weekend. Both of those events are already sold out.

Zak Kolasa, Acting Assistant Manager of Programs, noted demand on the event is high as it has proved to be a popular and low-cost event for families to kick-off the Christmas season.

Many enjoy the event as it offers the opportunity to experience the magic of Christmas, Kolasa noted.

In addition to getting to enjoy a stack of pancakes, participants were also able to make holiday-themed crafts, write letters to Santa, and take a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Looking ahead, the Recreation Department is looking forward to hosting a New Year’s celebration. On New Year’s Eve, during the day, an event will be held at the Maedel Community Centre with crafts, activities, and balloon drop at noon.

Kolasa is looking forward to the new event and suspects it will be a busy one.
