Cottam unofficially kicks-off summer with block party

by Garrett Fodor

It wasn’t just any Saturday night, as the community members, local businesses, and vendors came together to host a block party in the heart of Cottam.

The Saturday evening Cottam block party was the first in a series the Town of Kingsville has planned for the summer season, with the remaining being in downtown Kingsville.

The Cottam-based festivities stretched down County Road 34, welcoming visitors from 5pm to 10pm.

“It’s great to see everyone out enjoying themselves and a big ‘thank you’ to the Cottam businesses, who came forward to us with the idea to bring this event to Cottam,” Shelby Gault, Special Events Coordinator for the Town of Kingsville, said. “It’s just the excitement, the crowd of people going from block-to-block checking out the businesses and the vendors, it’s great.”

In total, the event featured more than 30 vendors and businesses spanning across County Road 34. The party featured food and drinks to household decorations, along with a stage featuring musical entertainment throughout the night.

“It’s great, it’s sort of the unofficial kick-off to summer right here in Cottam,” Aaron Carder, Communications Assistant with the Town of Kingsville, added. “I don’t think we could’ve asked for better weather. It’s helped bring a lot of fun and excitement and such a great atmosphere. We’re excited for what’s to come as well.”

The Cottam Block Party was the first of four happening with the Town of Kingsville this year, including its Christmas in July party on July 20, before having two more August 17 and September 21; all held in Kingsville revolving around different themes, from country night to a Glow Party featuring a DJ.

Gault and Carder both noted the Town of Kingsville has a full slate of summer activities planned across their centres. Both thanked the community for their support and interest in the events, along with the support of Town Council and the municipal staff who all played a part in the event.
